2020 Ford Mustang 2.3L High Performance
Ford just turned up the dial with the availability of the 2.3L High Performance Package on the 2020 Mustang. It pumps out an unbelievable 330 horsepower from only 2.3 liters of displacement. This High Performance Package has the Mustang GT suspension and aerodynamic body parts plus it has the brakes from the GT and wide performance wheels and tires.
The engine is said to be exactly the same as that available in the European Ford Focus RS and it uses a larger 63-millimeter twin scroll turbocharger to pump more air into the engine. To keep everything cool, a larger radiator was installed and I’m sure there is a larger intercooler somewhere. The high performance 2.3L engine was designed to transfer the power to the rear wheels with either the 10-speed automatic transmission or the 6-speed Getrag manual transmission.
This car can knock off 0-60 mph in about four and a half seconds on premium fuel, and it tops out at 155 mph. This is 10 mph faster than the 2019 EcoBoost Performance Package, and it is 34 mph faster than the base 2020 EcoBoost Mustang.
The 2.3L High Performance Package also has an available Handling Package which includes 19×9.5 inch wide painted aluminum wheels that roll with 265/40R Pirelli P Zero Corsa4 tires, which are intended for summer only driving. The package also contains larger front and rear anti sway bars, special shocks, a Torsen rear end with 3.55:1 gears, and semi-metallic brake pads that are inserted into four piston disc brake calipers which squeeze down on 13.9 inch front brake rotors. There is a front strut tower brace which increases the steering responsiveness and the rigidity of the front of the Mustang. This brace is made out of a special alloy.
Technology is used to improve the performance and driving experience of this new package. The power steering is electronically controlled, the brakes are anti lock, and there is a stability system which can be set by the driver to one of five different modes.
